Autodesk Inc.(San Rafael, CA) has released the latest version of DWF Writer, makingit easy to publish 3D design data from other 3D design softwareincluding Solidworks and Pro/Engineer. With the aim of improvingproduct design collaboration for the manufacturing industry, engineersusing a variety of 3D design applications can share compact DWFversions of models with the extended manufacturing team. DWF is anopen, standards-based file format. The free software permits thesharing of accurate digital designs without loss of data to paper-basedcommunication.

New Autodesk DWF Writer functionality lets designers using 3Dmechanical design software share their models and design data withproduct teams. It means they can provide accurate, data-rich digitaldesigns to non-technical team members at any point in the manufacturingprocess. As a result, product developers can save designs in anindustry-standard format and send these files electronically for bidsor for production at manufacturing sites around the world. Off-shoreteam members can view and understand designs easily, using the freeAutodesk DWF Viewer software, or using Autodesk DWF Composer orAutodesk data management solutions.

The latest version of Autodesk DWF Writer supports publication of 2Dfiles from a Microsoft Windows system printer driver, and retainsintelligent design information in 3D models to help ensurecommunication of design intent. To get the free download, click here.
