Engineered Software Inc. is supporting Houston Community College System (HCCS) and Society of Piping Engineers and Designers’ (SPED) new Green Piping Design training program by providing a grant worth $25,000 for use of its PIPE-FLO software program.

“Green Piping” refers to the designing of pipe networks to minimize, in part, their energy costs. In this new training program, PIPE FLO software will be used to assess various design alternatives to select pipe sizes and routes that save energy and operational costs.

The training is a new Green Process Piper Program at HCCS, in cooperation with the SPED, targeting unemployed and displaced piping designers. Although usually analyzed by engineers, the availability of low cost tools means technicians can now perform much of the same work.

SPED is working with HCCS on the Green Process Piper Program. The program is funded by the US American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, administered by the Houston-Galveston Area Council. The program will train lower-level piping designers to assess piping systems for energy consumption and all around system efficiency.

“This is a new, more advanced level of skill we are giving these pipers,” said William G. Beazley, SPED Executive Director. “Signs of increasing demand for efficiency in process and power plants are everywhere. The best prepared will be the first hired, when spending surges.”
