Magsoft Corp. (Ballston Spa, NY) has released Version 9.2. of itsFEM-based (finite element method) Flux tools for the analysis anddesign of electromagnetic and electromechanical devices, applications, and processes. Key to this version are said to be improvements in the userinterface, making the software easier to easier and more in tune withPC application continuity and interactivity.

With Flux, users can experiment and simulate device behavior. Allparameter definitions can be mathematical expressions containinganything from scalar values to complex algebraic and trigonometricrelationships, making virtual prototype design a reality.

Flux 9.2 features PC-based functionality in a common interface for bothof Magsoft’s flagship products, Flux2D and Flux3D. Additionally, thetechnology, which is based on Java and Python, allows for future Linuxand 64-bit compatibility as well as cluster or supercomputer processingcapability.

Flux Version 9 interface improvements provide easy access to suchcapabilities as parameter controls for geometry shape, location, andposition; mesh distribution; physical properties, and electricalinputs. The interface also offers easier access to  externalcircuit and drive connection for conductors; and solid body motioncoupling for linear, rotational, and, in Flux 3D only, pivotaldisplacements. Other Flux features include mechanical componentcoupling, transient solver including motion-induced eddy currents, anddirect coupling of Flux2D with MATLAB/Simulink.

Several technology enhancements also accompany the new interface. Themost significant of these being pivotal solid body motion coupling inFlux3D. Now when motion-induced eddy currents are prevalent in devicebehavior, a user can accurately model the physics.
