The report titled “World 3D Printing to 2017,” compiled by the Freedonia Group is now available on ReportsnReports.

According to the report, global demand for 3D printing is projected to rise more than 20% per year until it reaches $5 billion in 2017. Additionally, the majority of growth and demand will be seen in production and consumer applications. The interest in consumer applications will stem from those interested in pursuing 3D printing as a hobby or for personal at-home use.

Plastics will remain the top material being used for 3D printers over the next several years, because acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, polylactic acid and nylon still remain the simplest materials to work with. The report predicted there will be a growth in 3D metal printing, partially from gains in the aerospace market. There is also a projected demand for 3D printing software and scanners, but the growth in this sector will remain average. Further growth of 3D printing will also be seen in the dental and medical markets.

The U.S. will also remain the largest national 3D printing market, projected to account for 42% of global sales in 2017.
