Infinera Extends Just-in-TAM Program to 40 Gig Module

Infinera (Sunnyvale, CA), which provides digital optical networking systems to telecommunications carriers worldwide, extended its Just-in-TAM program to the 40 Gigabit Tributary Adapter Module (TAM), alllowing the company to deliver services that Infinera customers can now deliver to their customers in 10 days or less.

TAM modules slot into Infinera line cards at the endpoints of a circuit in an Infinera network. Installation of the TAMs, combined with software configuration of the circuit through the network, enables very fast turn-up of circuits and services in an Infinera network. The Just-in-TAM program, introduced last year, is an Infinera commitment to ship most TAM modules anywhere in the world within 10 days of receipt of customer order.

Infinera’s 40Gbps TAM, which has been available since last year, uses innovative Infinera technology known as Digital Virtual Concatenation (DVC) to map a 40Gbps service over four 10Gbps wavelengths, enabling 40Gbps services to be offered over any fiber plant capable of supporting 10Gbps services today. Super-wavelength services enabled by DVC offer advantages in terms of speed and cost-effectiveness of deployment for many services providers.

The speed and flexibility of the Infinera system is enabled by Infinera’s Bandwidth Virtualization architecture, which puts a minimum of 100Gbps of capacity in the network initially and is scalable to 800Gbps or more. That capacity can be reconfigured quickly and flexibly to provide connectivity between any points in the network and offers a wide variety of services, protocols, and bit rates.

The Infinera DTN is a Digital ROADM for long-haul and metro core networks, combining high-capacity DWDM transport, integrated digital bandwidth management, and GMPLS-powered service intelligence in a single platform.
