Infolytica(Montreal, Quebec), a provider of E-M software for high and lowfrequency devices, has recently announced the new 32-bit and 64-bitversions of MagNet, ElecNet, and ThermNet.

Infolytica highlights the inclusion of loss calculation in transientsolvers as the most notable addition to the latest version of Magnet.There are many different formulations available to account for ironloss in problems where the waveform is non-sinusoidal. Regardless ofwhich method is used, the calculations are all approximations that tryto generalize the data in the standard loss curves. These loss curvesare a function of frequency and peak induction, which assume asinusoidal excitation. In order to use these curves, the equivalentfrequency and equivalent peak induction have to be determined from thetransient waveform. Version 6.22 of MagNet achieves this by allowingthe equivalent frequency to be specified as an independent parameterfor each geometric component. The equivalent peak induction iscalculated as half the difference between minimum and maximum values ina specified time interval. The loss curve for a particular component isconstructed based on the specified equivalent frequency, and this curveis used to determine the loss at each point in the component, as afunction of the equivalent peak induction.

Other features of the releases of MagNet 6.22, ElecNet 6.14, andThermNet 1.12 are the additions of extrusion as a mesh layer option;position-dependent (forward/backward) load parameters; parameters thatrelate to the “Raleigh region” and the number of “curve fit knots” formaterial curves; enhanced display of curved surfaces; and improvementsin volume meshing and re-meshing for MagNet’s Transient 3D with Motionsolver and general solution speedup.
