Materialise Workshops and Forums a Deemed Success at RAPID

Materialise offered a Medical Implant Scanning and Manufacturing Workshop and the Rapid Implant Manufacturing Forum (RIMF) at the 2009 RAPID conference in Schaumburg,  IL.

The Medical Implant Scanning and Manufacturing Workshop was held on May 11. More than 30 people attended to learn about the process of producing custom implants using RP technology from a medical scan, to data preparation and FEA, to printing parts and regulatory issues. Materialise presented a case study where it worked with an implant manufacturer to redesign a femoral implant based on iterative FEA results. The leaders of the workshop included: Koen Engelborghs, Materialise; Andy Christensen, Medical Modeling;  Ola Harrysson, N.C. State University; and Dr. Stephen Rouse, Walter Reed Medical Center.

The third edition of the Rapid Implant Manufacturing Forum (RIMF) was held on May 13. The RIMF was a one-day conference track that more than 70 people attended. It addressed the latest trends and developments in rapid manufacturing and the design of custom implants. Participants learned about the diverse uses of image processing and manufacturing from experts in the industry.
