ModuleWorks debuted the latest release of its CAM components, version 2013.08, at the EMO trade fair for metalworking technology in September.

The new release introduces a new caching mechanism for 5-Axis toolpath generation, providing faster regeneration when parameters are changed. Time-consuming intermediate steps of the calculation are cached, and those applicable are re-used when re-calculating the toolpath.

Additional toolpath extension options for SWARF machining have been added to allow the overcutting of tilted edges. Multiblade has additional lead-in/out options to allow arc motion on the approach and retract for each pass. A new extrude machining toolpath strategy has also been added. This features automatic tilting and collision control and is optimized for large stone cutting tools.

A new proximity alert function has been provided. Alerts may be triggered at different points as the tool moves closer to the stock. These alerts can be set up individually for the holder, arbor and shaft parts of the tool allowing users and integrators a high degree of control.

The compare functionality, which allows gouges and excess material to be shown and measured, now has additional control options such as show only gouges, excesses or both using different color selections. Simulation has been optimized for the latest generation NVIDIA GeForce GTX 7000 graphics cards.
