The next generation of Mastercam software from CNC (Tolland, CT) includes increased flexibility and more programming options. Building on the Mastercam X platform, new toolpaths in Mastercam X2 expand the range of style choices and can produce finer finishes than its predecessor.  Mastercam X2 also incorporates new multiaxis toolpaths with "smart" interfaces that enhance control for programming multiaxis parts.

The file-tracking function identifies files that have changed, while the change-recognition capability shows specific changes, including modifications to Mastercam, SolidWorks, Solid Edge, AutoCAD, and other CAD files. Once the affected geometry is updated, the user can automatically update any additional toolpaths that use that geometry. The Surface Extend function can extend both trimmed and untrimmed surface edges. Trochoidal motion in high-speed toolpaths assists machining of harder materials. Gouge checking options offer different strategies to avoid potential collisions.
