NextComputing has added VMware ESXi 3.5 and VirtualBox to its list of options on the company’s NextDimension flextops, Vigor rugged portables, and NextServer rackmount computers.
Virtualization continues to demonstrate additional tangible benefits the more it’s used, broadening its value to the enterprise. Though server consolidation continues to be virtualization’s sweet spot, other notable virtualization-enabled features and capabilities worth considering include less power consumption, smaller server footprint, high availability, disaster recovery, and workload balancing.
IT departments are implementing the technology with the hopes of increasing user productivity while lowering IT costs. NextComputing aligns itself with the continuing virtualization trend by offering VMware ESXi 3.5 on systems with Quad Core Intel Xeon processors and VirtualBox on any model and configuration.
VMware ESXi 3.5 is a robust virtualization layer that abstracts processor, memory, storage, and networking resources into multiple virtual machines. It delivers the performance, scalability, and robustness required for enterprise IT environments.
VirtualBox is a general-purpose full virtualizer for x86 hardware. It is also open-source software. Features of VirtualBox include a modular design with internal programming interfaces and a client/server design, virtual machine descriptions in XML, guest additions for Windows and Linux, shared folders, virtual USB controllers, remote desktop protocol, and USB over RDP.
