Oracle At the Speed of Light!

Grid computing system gets a speed boost.

Grid computing system gets a speed boost.

By Doug Barney

We’ve talked about Sun grids, NVIDIA, Clark supercomputers, and IBM Blue Genes, reportedly the world’s fastest computer (Seymour Cray must be rolling in his grave). But Oracle (Redwood Shores, CA), never one to miss a trend, is committed to the high-performance grid game, and isn’t exactly wanting for partners.

Fact is, Oracle has been in grids for years, and is arguably one of its pioneers.

You can speed up your Oracle grid with the help of a kit from solid-state disk maker Texas Memory Systems (Houston, TX).

The company’s Oracle Accelerator Kit can make your grids truly supercomputer class by adding Infiniband host channel adapters and switches from Qlogic (Aliso Viejo, CA), and Texas Memory’s own solid-state disks.

With such a kit, high-end Oracle databases can run up to 25 times faster than on a conventional system, the company claims.

Texas Memory products can also speed Sun Solaris and Windows apps.
