Saelig Offers SD/MMC Card Interface Chip and Power Analyzer, 2 in a Series

By DE Editors

Two new offerings from the Saelig Company (Pittsford, NY; saelig.com) include the ALFATxp, a SD/MMC card interface chip, and the HA1600A, a high-speed AC power analyzer for power-compliance measurements.

Designed for applications such as data logging, picture viewing, and automated machines, the new ALFATxp connects through a built-in USB peripheral port, allowing the user to share files between a PC and custom-designed products. Made by GHI Electronics (Clinton Township, MI; ghielectronics.com), the ALFATxp brings FAT file system access to SD/MMC media, creating files and directories on the cards. It includes a Java Virtual Machine for handling additional tasks.

Since ALFATxp is viewed as a mass storage device on a PC, the operating system can read and write data on an SD card, just like a conventional card reader. By connecting ALFATxp through a USB port, users have access to two virtual devices — a mass storage device as well as CDC device that can read and write data through a virtual COM port on your PC.

ALFATxp is being offered by Saelig for under $12. A development board for experimenting with ALFATxp costs $99.95.

The HA1600A will provide product power-compliance measurements. It takes single-phase loads of up to 16 amps RMS, measuring 1st to 40th harmonics and updating the display in real time. The HA1600A can measure watts, VA, volts rms, volts peak, amps rms, amps peak, crest factors, THD, power factor, frequency, and inrush current. The HA1600A is intended primarily as a dedicated harmonics and flicker analyzer for compliance quality measurements, but it can also be used as a general-purpose line and mains analyzer.

Price: $2,899 (to start). To find more information, please visit saelig.com.
