Using WorkNC, Sescoi’s (Southfield,  MI) automatic CAM/CAD system, integrated with Zwicker Systems’ (Nuremberg, Germany) Winstat Framework, a German company says it was able to grow 30 percent in its process automation.

In 2003, Stephen Kegelmann and his employees at Kegelmann Technik GmbH (Rodgau-Jugesheim, Germany), a supplier of prototype components and low volume aluminum and plastic parts,  laid out the requirements for an automated system that would guarantee smooth workflow without bottlenecks, paper, missing data, and double entries. Starting with the erosion section they envisioned four steps — extraction of the electrode shape from the CAD data, electrode toolpath programming, machining and inspection, and feeding the erosion machine with the correct information and electrodes to cut the part.

The company selected the Winstat Framework software from Zwicker Systems in 2004. The existing cooperation between Sescoi and Zwicker Systems was an advantage when Kegelmann was having difficulty finding suitable software to extract electrode data from its CATIA CAD system. Since 2006 all the electrode manufacture at Kegelmann has become paperless and automated. Documentation is created with one click of the mouse and is displayed in HTML format on shop floor terminals.

For details about Sescoi‘s software solutions including WorkNC, an automatic CAM/CAD solution for 2 to 5-axis milling; WorkNC-CAD, a uniform CAD solution for the entire manufacturing process; WorkXPlore 3D, a high speed 3D collaborative viewer; WorkPLAN Enterprise, a new generation ERP solution for custom manufacturers; and MyWorkPLAN, a cost effective and easy to use job management system, go to Sescoi.
