Silicon Mechanics announced the availability of the new Seagate Constellation ES.3 hard drive. The ES.3 provides high-density storage for use in backup archival storage or other Tier 3 applications, including high-capacity RAID storage and mainstream enterprise external storage arrays (SAN, NAS, DAS), as well as enterprise backup and restore, the company says.
The ES.3 model is the sixth generation of the Constellation drive technology, featuring SAS and SATA interfaces. It provides enhanced error correction, and end-to-end SAS-based data integrity for data storage, with capacities of up to 4 terabytes (TB).
The Constellation ES.3 uses multi-drive firmware maximized for enterprise RAID system availability, the company says. It is available with an optional self-encrypting drive (SED) model, which offers encryption and security services for the protection of stored data. Seagate's SED models are compliant with the enterprise storage specifications developed by the Trusted Computing Group (TCG), an organization sponsored and operated by companies in the computer, storage, and digital communications industry.
