Strategic Test Introduces Dual Time Base Mode for PCI Waveform Digitizers

Sample rate can be changed from slow to fast on trigger event.

A new dual time base option called the ABA Mode has been introduced for the line of UltraFast oscilloscope-digitizer PCI cards from Strategic Test (Woburn, MA).

In ABA Mode, the cards are initially configured for slow continuous recording (similar to a data logger), then switch to high-speed sampling on detection of the trigger event, and then return to slow recording until the next trigger event.

The main uses for the ABA mode will be applications that require a recorded history of a process, both leading up to and after the trigger event, like safety and quality testing. A timestamp is recorded for each trigger event, and a pre-trigger can be set so that data is recorded prior to the trigger event at the fast sample rate.

The maximum speed that data can be recorded to hard disk is 200 MBps when using a RAID controller coupled with four S-ATA disks. The slowest and fastest sampling rates that can be selected for the ABA mode are a function of the digitizer-oscilloscope card used.

A training presentation of the UF2 ABA option is available by clicking here.
