The Chinese government has approved Broad Sustainable Building's plan to construct the world's tallest skyscraper in Changsha. The company plans to build the 220-story, 2,750-foot (838m) Sky City in just three months.

How is that even possible, given that it took years for the current tallest building (Burj Khalifa in Dubai) to reach the skies? BSB claims it will prefabricate materials off site over four months, then quickly assemble the building.

The massive complex will hold 30,000 people and 104 elevators. It will also include a hospital, hotel,17 helipads and five schools. Planned fire escape routes will allow everyone on a given floor to be evacuated within 15 minutes.

According to the company, the building will be fireproof for up to three hours, and capable of withstanding powerful earthquakes. Outside engineers, meanwhile, have expressed doubts that the pre-fab process would produce the structural sturdiness required for a building this tall, or that the firm can stay within its sub-$1 billion budget.

BSB announced this week that construction would commence in August.
