3D printer manufacturer Z Corporation (Burlington, MA) unveiled its largest-build, full-color printer, achieving true black with a dedicated print head in addition to the standard cyan, magenta,  and yellow (plus clear) colors for which it is known. Resolution is 600 x 540 dpi, and the build volume is 10x15x8 inches.

“The ZPrinter 650 will be our best color and highest resolution product,” says John Kawola, ZCorporation CEO. He notes that the 650 combines the speed and resolution performance of the company’s 510 model with the automation and ease-of-use features introduced last year on the 450,  bringing it all to the high end of their line. The design of the 650 eliminates much of the manual operations previously required for loading and removing powder, significantly reducing the touch-time of the user in operating the machine.

Kawola adds, “The build size of 10 by 15 by 8 deep serves a lot of different customers well, whether it’s for making large parts or for making many parts in one build.”

Superior parts result from the combination of a higher resolution print head, the addition of the true black color for full-color printing and a build speed of two to four layers per minute. Users can control the system either from a PC or directly on the printer, and can readily load the plaster composite powder via a built-in vacuum system; the previous bucket and scoop system has been eliminated.

An extra feature that makes this a one-stop system is the addition of a finishing station that includes an infiltration workspace with a carbon filter. The entire unit is odor-free, with automatic powder-recycling and no liquid waste to handle, bringing the ZPrinter 650 truly into the office environment. Suggested retail price is $59,900. Target markets include engineering, education, AEC, GIS, and entertainment.
