Z Corporation Introduces Two New 3D Scanners

ZCorporation introduced two handheld laser scanners for handling and capturing large quantities of 3D geometry and true color data for reverse engineering, inspection, product design, and a host of other applications.

Introduced at the SolidWorks 2009 World 2009 International User Conference and Exposition in Orlando, the ZScanner 700 PX and ZScanner 700 CX extend ZCorp’s ZScanner 700 platform introduced initially in 2006. The ZScanner 700 made its debut as the first-handheld, self-positioning scanner on the market that could digitize 3D surfaces in real time.

The new ZScanner 700 PX is a handheld laser scanner that precision-scans large objects that have previously not been able to be scanned by hand, such as aircraft and automobiles. Using the built-in AICON photogrammetric software, users of ZScanner 700 PX can choose larger objects for scanning and take advantage of accuracy of up to eight times that of the standard ZScanner 700.

The other new scanner is the ZScanner 700 CX, also a handheld laser scanner that can capture surface information in full 24-bit color, rendering the complete picture of an object, not just the geometry. Users can achieve more informative and realistic 3D visualization and conceptual models with color 3D data, which makes it possible to use  the ZScanner 700 CX for cultural heritage,  anthropology, archeology, art, entertainment, and Web applications, as well as product design and reverse engineering.

The ZScanner 700 CX also provides accurate, automatic texture mapping that can be saved separately from the mesh. This allows users to change or refine texture in photo editing software without compromising the accuracy. During the same scan users can toggle between color and monochrome options to provide dual scanning.

The ZScanner 700 CX color scanner offers full-color scan-to-print when used in combination with Z Corporation’s 3D printers, which have multiple color printing capability.

Available now, the ZScanner 700 PX and the ZScanner 700 CX can be purchased via Z Corporation’s worldwide reseller network, at U.S. manufacturer’s suggested retail prices of $84,900 USD for the ZScanner 700 PX and $49,900 USD for the ZScanner 700 CX.
