Infimaker Launched New 5-Axis CNC, Bringing Factory-Class Machine to the Desktop

Infimaker, a pioneer making high-end manufacturing tools truly accessible, today launches its desktop CNC machine, the Infimaker K1, on Kickstarter. Featuring true simultaneous 5-axis machining, 0.01 mm Precision, and an approachable workflow, the K1 is designed not only for makers, but also as a serious tool for small-batch production and engineering workflows.

5-axis CNC is moving from industrial factories into the hands of individual creators

True simultaneous 5-axis machining has long been reserved for industrial CNC centers costing hundreds of thousands of dollars. Weighing approximately 110 kg and measuring 23.62×25.20×32.68 inches, Infimaker K1 brings this capability to the desktop as a single, fully integrated implementation.

Why 5-axis matters:

  • Fewer setups and less manual intervention: Unlike conventional 3-axis CNC machines, which often require users to stop machining, manually reposition parts, and re-align fixtures multiple times to complete complex geometries, a 5-axis system can machine multiple sides and angles continuously in a single setup.

“Setup time is the killer on a large VMC for one-off parts,” said Frank R., an early beta user and owner of a four-person machine shop in Long Island. “ With the K1, I can have a fixture dialed in and chips flying in 20 minutes.”

  • Higher precision, fewer errors: Eliminating re-clamping reduces cumulative alignment error.
  • Superior surface finish: Continuous tool orientation maintains optimal cutting angles.
  • Expanded design freedom: Complex parts that once required factory equipment can now be produced in a workbench.

With the K1, advanced parts that previously demanded industrial infrastructure can now be produced directly from a desktop environment.

“I’ve been milling jewelry wax masters directly from CAM, and the surface finish coming off the machine is clean enough that I’m spending significantly less time hand-finishing before casting,” said Sofia M., an independent jewelry designer from Los Angeles.

0.01 mm Repeatability: From Maker to Business owner

At the heart of the K1 lies an Infimaker-designed, in-house manufactured spindle rated at 1,500W and 20,000 RPM. Paired with 0.01 mm repeatability, it enables a level of performance and machining capability previously unavailable in desktop CNC machines.

With 0.01 mm XYZ positioning accuracy, the K1 is capable of machining a wide range of materials, including aluminum, brass, copper, wood, acrylic, machinable wax, jade, resin, as well as harder metals such as steel and titanium for light-duty applications, It fits 100+ machining scenarios, from functional prototypes to jewelry-grade parts. Until now, achieving this level of precision required access to a professional machine shop. With K1, it becomes accessible on a desktop.

“This actually feels like a Mac app. The toolpath preview is gorgeous, and the onboarding had me cutting parts on day one,” said Daniel K., a robotics engineer based in Seattle. “Having this on my desk has compressed my iteration loop from days to hours.”

AI-Powered Workflow: Zero CAM knowledge required

The K1 is designed to eliminate the steep learning curve of traditional CNC workflows.

It features a 6-tool automatic changer, which seamlessly transitions between roughing, finishing, drilling, tapping, and engraving in a single run with no manual intervention. An integrated ruby probe serves as an automatic centering instrument, ensuring precise alignment during multi-step operations.

The K1 is powered by InfiStudio, Infimaker's own CAM software. Users can drive the machine directly from its built-in touchscreen, or work from the APP.

For decorative and artistic pieces, an AI-assisted workflow can turn a reference image into a 3D model to start from; for precision parts, the K1 works directly from the CAD/CAM files. In both cases, toolpaths are generated automatically. The onboard camera reads the tag and loads the matching material profile and cutting parameters automatically—no manual setup required.

“Our team has spent years building intelligent systems where hardware, software, and control algorithms work together seamlessly. That experience shaped the way we designed K1—from AI-powered creation to automated machining—making advanced manufacturing accessible to more people.” says Bowen Xie, Founder of InfiMaker.

Lower Noise for Desktop Use

Designed for studio, classroom, and home workshop environments, the K1 ran at around 70 dB during internal testing under certain machining conditions.

“The thing I didn't expect was how quiet it runs”, said Marcus T., a mechanical engineer and off-road enthusiast based in Austin. “I can actually use it at 11pm in my garage workshop without waking up my family.”

Availability

Unlike many crowdfunding projects, Infimaker has already completed supply chain integration and first-batch production validation prior to launch. The company's production base in Shenzhen, China, currently has a monthly production capacity of 3000 units and maintains sufficient reserves of core components. The product is engineering-complete and production-ready, with worldwide shipping for Infimaker K1 orders expected to begin in Q3 2026.
