ASTM International’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE) and Additive Center B.V.(Eindhoven, Netherlands) have established a strategic partnership to advance additive manufacturing (AM) certification and quality assurance for semiconductor equipment manufacturing supply chains.
This collaboration connects Additive Center’s semiconductor ecosystem expertise and supplier development capabilities with ASTM’s standards, qualification, and certification frameworks as applied to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the semiconductor industry. Together, the organizations plan to set up a semiconductor-specific pathway for AM supplier qualification. This approach can be applied in other industries, such as aerospace, defense, medical, automotive, and energy.
The partnership is designed to help suppliers move toward certification.
Additive Center will lead supplier engagement, readiness assessments, and gap closure activities through its engineering consultancy and Amify learning platform. ASTM International will provide independent certification through its Additive Manufacturing Certification Program, auditing suppliers against ISO/ASTM 52901, 52904, and 52920, as well as sectoral quality standards such as ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO13485 and IATF 16949.
The result is a replicable assurance model that suppliers achieve qualification through hands-on improvement and third-party validation, while OEMs gain data-driven insight into their supply chains.
“ASTM brings certification, qualification, and standardization experience from the most regulated industries—aerospace, defense, automotive, energy, and medical—into the semiconductor space,” says Sergio Sanchez, Business Director of ASTM International’s Advanced Manufacturing Division. “Additive Center brings local expertise, supplier relationships, and semiconductor-specific knowledge.”
Additive Center CEO Maarten van Dijk adds: “Semiconductors are the backbone of every advanced technology on the planet, and additive manufacturing is playing a crucial role. Through this partnership, we can help semicon OEMS and their suppliers raise the bar on precision and repeatability, ensuring the AM parts behind those systems are produced to the highest global standards.”
This program will be highlighted at Formnext 2025 in Frankfurt, Germany, where both organizations will be present: Additive Center Booth: Hall 12.1, C68; ASTM International Booth: Hall 11.0, Booth A21.
More details about this collaboration and upcoming certification opportunities will be available at both booths. A press conference about this news will take place Tuesday, November 18, from 4:00–4:30 p.m. (Hall 11.0, Stand A21).
The AM CoE is a collaborative partnership representing industry, government, and academia to conduct strategic R&D to advance AM standardization.
Founded in 2018 at the Brainport Industries Campus in Eindhoven, Additive Center is the end-to-end partner for scaling Additive Manufacturing at global enterprises.
