Atlantic XL provides engineering, procurement and construction; and engineering, procurement and construction management services to the energy industry that supports offshore and onshore systems. Atlantic XL is operating a commercially available metal 3D printer in Newfoundland and Labrador. The Canada-based company selected additive manufacturing partner SLM Solutions as its vendor of choice and purchased an SLM 280 machine.
The SLM 280 system capability will contribute to net zero by reducing the carbon footprint, as well as support supply chain by reducing lead times, solving part obsolescence, and reducing costs by offering a digital warehouse concept over physical parts storage, according to the companies.
“We decided on the SLM 280 because of the open architecture system. It gives us the freedom to adapt everything we need,” explains Marty Gaulin, director of Additive Manufacturing at Atlantic XL.
The SLM 280 is an additive manufacturing machine with multi-laser technology and closed-loop powder handling. It’s made for medium to high volume metal additive manufacturing part production and prototypes. The open architecture strategy of the machine enables a free choice of powder, open process parameters with ready to print parameters if required and variable control.
“Our machines are a great asset for the energy industry. We are pleased about this exciting new relationship bringing our manufacturing footprint to the East coast of Canada,” says Fabrizio Ragusa, energy expert of SLM Solutions.
Atlantic XL Inc. is based in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada and is part of the XL Global Group. The organization specializes in integrated solutions for safety systems and process control, data management, telecommunications, business critical IT, commercial vehicle, mobility and building lifts and metal additive manufacturing.
