Cognitive Design Systems launches its design optimization software, Cognitive Design, which is designed to support design engineers.

Cognitive Design provides a unified platform that integrates design optimization with manufacturability, streamlining the workflow and reducing the need for manual adjustments. This software solution reduces the time needed for design engineers to achieve optimal part performance. 

Optimize Manufacturable Designs 

Cognitive Design empowers engineers to create high-performance, manufacturable parts from the design stage using advanced, simplified tools, the company reports. The software is designed to adapt to the needs and expectations of users, regardless of experience level. 

Leveraging its engine, Cognitive Design allows design engineers to identify geometric optimization opportunities and implement them using simulation-driven parametric design. The software helps engineers to find tweight reduction options by creating optimal shapes that meet and exceed mechanical requirements, according to Cognitive Design Systems.

These modifications are enabled by advanced features such as variable triply periodic minimal surfaces infill, lattice infill, offset, shell, and ribbing. Cognitive Design also enhances the performance of topologically optimized designs by allowing engineers to modify the entire part geometry or focus on specific regions, the company adds.

Generate Manufacturable Designs

With Cognitive Design, potential manufacturing flaws such as wall deformation and feature distortion, can be quickly identified and prevented during the design stage by using advanced manufacturing analysis tools. The software’s manufacturing-driven design approach ensures maximum design feasibility, regardless of complexity, by enabling precise adjustments to geometry, offset and ribbing thickness, thermal concentration, holes, and powder removal parameters. Its geometric engine allows for easy refinement of geometry to ensure manufacturability, bridging the gap between design and production and streamlining the concept-to-product flow by reducing design iterations.

Accelerate Advanced Engineering

Cognitive Design leverages an algorithmic design approach to build customized workflows, allowing engineers to iterate at lightning speed with its implicit engine. The software also offers preset workflows—such as lightweighting, simulation-driven design, and AM Morpher.
