Creaform (Quebec, Canada), provider of 3D digital solutions and developer of the Handyscan 3D line-up of handheld and self-positioning laser scanners, launched the second version of VxScan proprietary data acquisition software.

As the platform for all of the Handyscan 3D line of scanners, VxScan’s new version (v.2) includes the following new features: Decimate Triangles — the new Decimate Triangles slider relies on the curvature recognition algorithm to automatically reduce the mesh resolution on flat surfaces while maintaining a higher resolution mesh on complex and detailed surfaces. It also produces lighter STL files.

Enhanced Surface Reconstruction includes the following: Improved surface boundaries recognition and reconstruction; Improved manual multi-resolution; Optimized surface reconstruction (quicker Stop Scan and Load Session); Redesigned spike filter to improve details/noise differentiation; Volume position can now be defined manually (position and angle); Redesigned Optimize Surface algorithm for more efficiency.

Compatibility with all major operating systems has been improved including Windows XP 32 bits; Windows Vista 32 bits; Windows Vista 64 bits; Improved performance and limitless memory is now available in 64 bits.

3D Viewer improvements include the following: New Lock Zoom function lets you zoom on particular details while scanning; Redesigned live surface rendering; Enhanced lighting and shading; Quick dynamic rendering mode.

Ways to customize your VxScan experience include 5 different 3D viewer control modes, the ability to save scan parameters and keep them as default, and the ability to change VxScan's colors according to your preferences.

VxScan v.2 also includes Improved Positioning and enhanced Edition Mode, and features the capability to delete the facets permanently. Added are powerful Scanner Manager and Installer functionalities.
