Siemens Digital Industries Software introduces an extension of its existing Xcelerator as a Service (XaaS) offering with the launch of Simcenter Cloud HPC software. The new service is launched with any desktop instance of Simcenter STAR-CCM+, and no additional configuration is required.

Siemens says the new addition provides instant-on, rapidly scalable cloud-based HPC for the most demanding simulation studies.

Companies such as DNV Maritime Advisory, which offers analysis and consulting across the marine sector, already are finding beneficial applications with Simcenter Cloud HPC.  Prepared for engineering challenges, the company’s maritime team uses Simcenter STAR-CCM+ software.  “We often carry out projects with ship owners to troubleshoot issues encountered during service or to evaluate modifications to improve efficiency,” says Cosmin Ciortan, principal specialist at DNV Maritime Advisory.

He adds, “We never find ourselves limited by the physics and complexity that we can model using Simcenter STAR-CCM+. One of the things we like the most about the software is the ability to see what is happening with a simulation in real time.”

Siemens says this service will help reduce the cost of the most complex simulation tasks. This will allow “organizations of all sizes to access advanced simulation, gain insight into product performance, and drive informed engineering decision-making.”

In use, the company says Simcenter Cloud HPC provides immediate access to compute capacity, avoiding the complexity and cost of third-party cloud services. Siemens says small and medium sized businesses can be more competitive by using affordable access to Simcenter. Larger companies can benefit from supplementing existing compute resources with near-unlimited cloud compute when extra capacity is required.
