Vertex introduces its cloud-based platform for 3D visualization across the extended product development environment. The company claims its twin background in 3D data visualization and fintech security gives it the breadth of expertise required to reshape engineering collaboration.

The Vertex platform allows anyone in the team to share and use product data without special hardware or more IT-based infrastructure. Using a cloud-based solution allows Vertex to streamline how review models are generated, shared, annotated and tracked.

The Vertex platform is fast enough to load 100,000 BOM lines in seconds, and the largest models in minutes. Once in Vertex, the model can be accessed by as many people as required, even if that means thousands of views. Using the Vertex platform eliminates sharing screenshots in email, sending original data files via FTP or other ways that confuse product with process and add confusion to collaboration efforts.

The Vertex platform is simple to use. The company says zero training is required to get everyone up to speed. Because Vertex is cloud-based, individuals can access models from anywhere on any device without special hardware or software.

The four pillars of the Vertex vision are simplification of data sharing in a secure environment; connection of cross-functional teams for both manufacturing and service; increasing the quality of decisions by improving access to information; and fast response to changes and test issues.

The heart of the Vertex platform is a 3D viewer that supports a wide variety of 3D visualization standards including STEP and JT. The platform is built with security to control and protect product data while enabling the synchronous free flow of information between team members. The viewer loads even the largest engineering models swiftly and can present 100,000 lines of BOM information to a reviewer in a second.

Vertex says users can draw and comment directly on models, making it easy to understand the where and what of proposed changes. Team members can pin a comment directly on the surface of the geometry that allows others to respond. The process of capturing part data for more in-depth discussion is aided by camera views and snapshots. Users can combine a set of snapshots to create a story that shows only BOM visibility in a secure environment.

Comments and markups in Vertex do not touch the original data model, and the company makes it simple to use the collaboration commentary as reference geometry to review and update the model quickly.
