NextComputing (Nashua, NH) improved the functionality of its NextBook17E line of notebook computers with the addition of quad-core Intel Core 2 Quad processors at 2.4 GHz or 2.66 GHz, as well as increasing storage with up to two internal 200GB, 7200 RPM HDDs by Seagate Technology (Scotts Valley, CA).
The NextBook 17E can be configured with up to 4GB DDR 2-SDRAM, a 17-inch LCD with resolutions to 1920 x 1200, PCI Express 16x graphics, four USB 2.0 ports, one DVI, four Audio jacks, 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet, and DVD RW. Supported operating systems include Windows XP Professional, Vista, and Windows 2003 Server. Concurrent use and dual boot environments are also available.
The NextBook17E is an affordable, portable solution for digital media applications such as video editing and effects rendering, real-time media streaming, 3D scene rendering and animation, or live virtual instrument performance. A portable four-core system also makes a suitable mobile workstation for engineers and designers using 3D CAD applications. This same mix of enhanced performance and increased storage capacity enables portability for high throughput data streaming applications, such as data collection, sniffing, and analysis. Possible applications are in the telecom/datacom and military/intelligence communities.
