Phase3D, a company vested in in-situ inspection for additive manufacturing (AM), has expanded its flagship product, Fringe Inspection, to support the Renishaw 500 series, which includes the 500Q, 500D, and 500Flex systems.

The new Fringe Inspection 500 Kit, now available at www.phase-3d.com, was developed in collaboration with HRL Laboratories, a research institution focused on materials science and additive manufacturing. This product was developed to directly support the DARPA SURGE initiative, a push for the United States to develop quality assured AM part production.

“Collaborating with Phase3D allowed us to unlock new insights into the printing process. Fringe Inspection augments our in-situ sensor suite with high-fidelity, layer by layer data, which greatly enhances our ability to assess part quality while printing,” says Eric Clough, R&D group lead at HRL Laboratories.

The 500 Kit is designed for deployment, with installation completed in 24 hours. The system is noninvasive and fully reversible, allowing manufacturers to restore the printer to its original state without hassle.

“This expansion into the Renishaw 500 line is a major step forward for our customers and for the industry,” says Niall O’Dowd, PhD, founder and CEO of Phase3D. “We’ve built Fringe Inspection to meet manufacturers where they are, and now, that includes some of the most advanced powder bed fusion systems in production today."

The 500Q Kit launch marks a milestone in Phase3D’s ongoing work with part manufacturers, research labs, and industrial partners. With Fringe Inspection, customers gain real-time, layer-by-layer visibility into the build process.
