PTC (Needham, MA) has announced it has acquired German technicalillustration software developer ITEDO Software GmbH and ITEDO SoftwareLLC for approximately $17 million in cash. ITEDO is best known for itsIsoDraw family of products for creating and maintaining technicalillustrations. ITEDO is said to have a customer base of more than 2,400customers in a variety of discrete manufacturing industries, includingautomotive, aerospace, defense, and industrial equipment.

ITEDO's IsoDraw and sister applications IsoView and IsoCompose aredescribed as special-purpose technical illustration solutions that havebeen optimized for the creation of isometric technical illustrations, which, in turn, are suitable for manufacturing, marketing, customerservice, and support documentation. Illustrations can be created fromscratch and from legacy illustrations, but more importantly

IsoDraw applications can create illustrations from 3D and 2D designdata developed in most widely deployed MCAD solutions as well as fromscratch. "Many manufacturing customers rely upon the delivery ofdocumentation for product launches, revenue recognition, regulatorycompliance, service delivery and customer satisfaction," said JimHeppelmann, executive vice president and chief product officer of PTCin the press announcement.

PTC says that the ITEDO applications will become an important part ofits Arbortext publishing product family, which provides enterprise-widetechnical publishing support. ITEDO software will enable Pro/E users touse their models as the foundation of their technical illustrations, eliminating the manual step of redrawing their files from scratch.Further, the Pro/E data will be able to update illustrationsautomatically as changes are made to the upstream. The full integrationof ITEDO into the PTC family will mean that companies can createdocumentation earlier in the product development process and laterre-use the data for new projects.

PTC says that TEDEO users will be able to continue to all ITEDOproducts, as stand-alone applications. For more about ITEDO SoftwareGmbH, click here. Click here to go to PTC.
