FEA and services speed up 3D glass forming analysis process.

By DE Editors

August 30, 2007 — To accelerate and optimize the development process of non-round glass bottle forming, Dassault Systemes (DS; Paris, France) announced that Glass Service Improve of The Netherlands is using professional services and Abaqus Unified Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software from SIMULIA BV (Providence, RI), the DS brand that delivers a scalable portfolio of Realistic Simulation solutions.

SIMULIA, in collaboration with Glass Service Improve, has developed a methodology that uses an automated remeshing technique to simulate a multistage manufacturing process involving viscous materials that are subjected to high temperatures, large geometry deformation, and complex contact.

The new 3D glass forming analysis method, which can be applied to other forming and industrial applications, enables designers to accurately evaluate the optimum blow mold process in a virtual environment.

This process reduces or eliminates costly physical testing and helps to address the demand for glass bottle manufacturers (and especially flaconage producers) to create complex non-round geometries in a timely and costly fashion.

For details, contact SIMULIA BV or Glass Service Improve.
