SABIC, a provider of plastics, has enhanced its materials as well as received a finalist nomination for the Crystal Cabin Award. The company will be showcasing its new materials at the Aircraft Interior Expo in Hamburg, Germany.

For the Crystal Cabin Award, SABIC has been nominated for its CLEAR LEXAN XHR Sheet Series. This thermoplastic material offers high levels of light transmission for an OSU-compliant sheet material. The material also meet industry standards for burn performance and have the same smoke density requirements as the uncoated LEXAN XHR2000 sheet.

SABIC's portfolio of CFR Resin Lighting has recently been pre-certified to provide multiple color capabilities. These enhancements, according to the company, enable full customization and molding for parts with thin walls.

The company has also expanded its LEXAN XHR portfolio by adding XHRL300 and XHRL200 grade sheets. These offerings have full compliance with heat release and FST standards and also increase fuel efficiency.

“SABIC is constantly seeking more ways to deliver more value and innovation to the aircraft industry,” said Kim Choate, market director, Mass Transportation, Innovative Plastics. “With this mindset, we look for opportunities to help OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) and tier suppliers achieve their design, cost reduction and efficiency objectives. The enhancements to the LEXAN CFR resin portfolio for aircraft interiors were developed to answer our customers’ needs for lightweight, compliant materials that can be ordered ‘off the shelf,’ with pre-certification and unlimited color options.”
