SC13 Conference to Recognize Innovators

Supercomputing innovators will be honored with a new award at this year's SC13 supercomputing conference in Denver. William Pugh of the University of Maryland will receive the inaugural "Test of Time" award for his 1991 paper, "The Omega Test: a Fast and Practical Integer Programming Algorithm for Dependence Analysis."

The new "Test of Time" award will honor influential papers published in the 25-year history of the SC technical program. The award will be presented annually to a single paper with clear historical impact from the proceedings from 10 to 25 years ago.

“The Omega test provided a very elegant solution to an extremely difficult problem in compiler technology,” said Daniel Reed, vice president for research and economic development and computational science and bioinformatics chair at the University of Iowa. “The paper had a huge impact at the time, and its results are still shaping today's compilers.”

Australian anthropologist and researcher Genevieve Bell will give this year's keynote. Bell was a cultural anthropologist at Intel for 10 years, was named an Intel Fellow for her work in the Digital Home Group, and currently directs the Interaction and Experience Research group there.
