Sescoi (West Midlands, UK) has said it expects to release version 19 of its flagship CAD/CAM software WorkNC with its new G3 interface this coming spring. The new interface has been making the rounds of winter manufacturing shows with MyWorkPLAN, the company's job management software for SMEs, like Euromold and more local seminars.

G3, WorkNC's third-generation software interface, features a large graphics area bordered by a tree structure and contemporarily styled icons and toolbars. It can be customized to suit the user's preferences.

Within G3, all the previous environments have been integrated into one, allowing extensive interactive picking. Geometric elements, positions and toolpaths can all be selected directly from the screen, allowing the user to gather information quickly and accurately for subsequent tasks or operations. WorkNC's toolpath editing benefits particularly from this capability, through graphical modification of both individual and groups of paths.

In addition to the new interface, G3 has several new toolpaths including intelligent lead-ins on Z-Level Finishing, which is intended to avoid marking the part, while increasingly fluid tool movement is expected to reduce machining times and improve surface quality. High Torque Re-Roughing now features automatic machining of flat areas. Collision detection and avoidance has also been the subject of enhancement in G3. Suspect toolpaths are automatically encircled with a curve, allowing safe machining paths to be added to each individual area. Additionally, a proximity warning alerts the user if the tool or holder moves within a user specified envelope, giving advance warning of potentially hazardous machine movements.
