CD-adapco(Melville, NY) says the latest version of its flagship computationalfluid dynamics package, STAR-CD, brings new state-of-the-art solvertechnology to CFD analysis without compromising the advanced modelingand complex physics capabilities for which STAR-CD is known. By usingthe latest polyhedron-based finite volume technology, STAR-CD V4delivers significant benefits in speed, robustness, and usability.

Benefits include polyhedral cells that allow for polyhedral meshes aseasy to build as those of tetrahedral. However, compared to tetrahedralmeshes, polyhedral meshes are more accurate, use less memory, convergefaster, and require fewer cells to obtain the same level of accuracy.Another is improved free surface analysis where state-of-the-art free surfacemodeling is an improvement on the technology previously usedextensively throughout the marine industry in COMET.

Some other benefits are extra transient options with the addition of anew solution algorithm and high-order discretisation scheme; a newliquid film model; and memory management: STAR-CD V4 is fully 64 bitcompatible and includes improved dynamic memory handling, furthereasing the solution of large calculations.
