Sun Expands Enterprise Storage Platform

By DE Editors

Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Santa Clara, CA; sun.com) has expanded its StorageTek 9900 virtualization portfolio with the introduction of the Sun StorageTek 9990V Enterprise Storage System, concurrent with Hitachi, Ltd. (Santa Clara, CA; hds.com).

The Sun StorageTek 9990V system targets the highest end of the data center market. The company’s other StorageTek 9900 family members include the StorageTek 9985 and the Sun StorageTek 9990, for the enterprise-level and the data center.

The storage system delivers what Sun calls “new thin provisioning capabilities” with Dynamic Provisioning software that improves storage usage while also providing an easy and transparent path for adding more storage over time.
