CADFind from Applied Search Technology Ltd. (AST; Birmingham, UK) is adesign retrieval system that enables engineers to find both 3D modelsand 2D engineering drawings use either a 2D sketch or 3D model as yoursearch source. A product of research at Aston University, CADFind letsyou mix 2D drawings and 3D parts (models) in the same database andsearch and retrieve them, fostering design re-use, which, in turn, canlead to time and cost savings.

Earlier this year AST launched CADFind for SolidWorks. Tightlyintegrated into SolidWorks, CADFind for SolidWorks lets you create asimplified 3D model or a 2D sketch and then, with a single click'search your company's CADFind database for matching 3D parts or legacy2D drawings.

The company says that CADFind searches are fast. According to thecompany; tests at a collaborating company in Birmingham, UK showed thatCADFind could search a mixed 3D and 2D database of more than 28,000views/8000 parts in just 6 seconds.

The company has now extended its integration to 2D systems withversions for AutoCAD and DWG Editor. For further information, to accessvideos of the CADFind system, or to request an evaluation unit, clickhere.
