Trumpf, a provider of industrial machining and tooling equipment, has expanded its portfolio with the TruPrint LMF 3D printer. It is suited for applications such as dental, jewelry and materials research.

The new TruPrint 1000 LMF 3D printer works like a selective laser melting 3D printer, using a powder bed process to build three-dimensional parts by laying down a thin layer of metal powder materials onto the build surface while a 200-watt laser fuses the layer of powder along the contour of the part being printed. The technology is capable of fabricating objects with complex geometries not possible with traditional metal manufacturing processes, including objects with internal channels and hollow spaces, the company states.

It sports a build volume of 100 x 100 mm, and joins the company's LMD manufacturing technology. By expanding its offerings, the company is working towards speeding up 3D fabrication processes. Current versions of its LMD technology can deposit material at rates at 500 cm/hr.
