Metamorphic AM is a UK-based design and engineering consultancy specialising in advanced Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM). Founded by Laurence Coles and Manolis Papastavrou, the company helps innovators unlock additive manufacturing’s true potential through intent-driven, simulation-led design. Metamorphic treats DfAM as an engineering discipline — not a software exercise. The team develops bespoke computational design workflows that embed functional requirements and manufacturing constraints from the outset, ensuring geometry is a direct expression of performance intent rather than a generic “optimised” form.

Since 2021, Metamorphic has led over £8 million in R&D programmes across sectors including quantum technologies, fusion energy, telecommunications, medical devices, and bioprocessing. Its work spans early-stage research through to production-ready outcomes, supporting clients where performance, reliability, and manufacturability are critical.
