Aleph Objects announces the next generation of its popular desktop STL 3D printer, the LulzBot TAZ Workhorse. It is the seventh generation in the TAZ line of printers, and is designed for professional use.

All three aspects of 3D printing—hardware, software and materials—have been upgraded. The build volume is 14% larger than the TAZ 6. A new belt-driven Z-axis increases speed and reliability. The LulzBot TAZ Workhorse uses a calibration cube to measure and compensate for X/Y/Z backlash, increasing printed part precision. The concept comes from professional-grade CNC machines.

The TAZ Workhorse offers print volume dimensions of 280x280x285 mm (11.02x11.02x11.22-in.), for a total print volume of 22,344 cm3(1,362.45 in3).

A new set of print tool heads allow the choice of precision, maximum speed or fidelity with materials like carbon fiber reinforced blends. The included print tool head is the HS, a hardened steel nozzle capable of 0.80 mm resolution. Optional print heads are the LS, (0.25 mm resolution) for detailed resolution, or the HS+ tool head (1.20 mm) for large prototypes and high output. The print heads are an all-new design for this update, with 360-degree cooling to improve overhang and bridge performance.

The print surface is a modular heated borosilicate glass (PEI). The print bed heats up to its standard operational temperature of 100 degrees C. (212 degrees F.) in 10 minutes 45 seconds. The print bed maximum temperature is 120 degrees C. (248 degrees F.). Layer resolution ranges from 0.05 mm (0.002 in.) to 0.4 mm (0.015 in.)

The TAZ Workhorse supports a wide range of third-party filaments, and is compatible with polylactic acid, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, nylon, polycarbonate, carbon fiber reinforced blends, TPU 85A & 95A (Flexible), polyethylene terephthalate glycol-modified, PETT, copolyester, polyvinyl butyral(Polycast), polyvinyl alcohol, high impact polystyreneand other.

LulzBot recommends Cura LulzBot Edition 3.2 or newer as the operating software, which runs on GNU/Linux, Mac and Windows. Supported file type for print jobs are .stl, .obj, .x3d, .3mf, .png and .jpg.

The printer’s power requirements are typical of units designed to function on a desktop as well as in a shop: 100VAC-240VAC at 50Hz-60Hz and 3.2A maximum. It carries various certifications.

The printer sells in the United States for $2,950; prices may vary elsewhere. The Workhorse is sold with a 1-year warranty and access to technical support 7 days a week. Optional extended warranties of 1, 2 or 3 years are available. The country of origin is USA.

First shipments will take place in June 2019. The LulzBot TAZ Workhorse 3D printer is sold direct by Aleph Objects
