The newest ASM Handbook provides insight into the integration of modeling for simulation of manufacturing processing. The metals industry is moving toward an integrated computational materials engineering approach (ICME), and this new release provides engineers with accurate predictions of material and process behavior to avoid or reduce costly trial-by-error and prototyping methods of development.

The rate of change within this area of engineering has continued to increase with industrial benefits being reaped from the use of such engineering tools. This book serves as a reference to these developments. ASM Handbook: Volume 22B, edited by David Furrer and Lee Semiatin, addresses the application of metallic process simulations. Input data and data verification methods, solidification, bulk deformation, machining, powder metallurgy, heat treatment, surface treatment, and joining are among the processes covered. The industrial use of phase diagrams, quality, and optimization methods are examined.
