Axiom has released Detail Finder, an application that allows users to quickly find details, cells, blocks and more in any number of MicroStation and AutoCAD files.

By simply entering in a text string, Detail Finder immediately shows a list of all the MicroStation and AutoCAD files that contain the text string in objects such as details, cells, blocks, references and tags. When a file is selected from the list, the solution shows a thumbnail of the file and a list of objects in the file that contain the text string.

Double-clicking any object in the list causes the file to open (in MicroStation or AutoCAD) and to zoom in on the exact element/object. If multiple instances of the text are found in the same file, the system cycles through each instance with just a click of a button.

Like an Internet search engine, Detail Finder automatically indexes the contents of the selected group of CAD files, creates a database of information about the files that it has been pointed to and periodically updates the data in the database in order to catch changes that have been made in the drawings. It can search AutoCAD DWG and DXF files and MicroStation DGN files. Additionally, the user interface can be set to use either MicroStation or AutoCAD terminology, based on user preference.
