NextComputing, manufacturer of small form-factor and dense computing servers and workstations, announced support for VMware vCenter Server and vSphere hypervisor in its NextStream blade server. The 2U-high NextStream is optimized for IT environments looking to reduce hardware footprint.

The NextStream high-density blade server helps users that need to increase their processing and storage capacity to accommodate cloud-based applications by consolidating the hardware needed to run deployments of multiple physical hosts and virtual machines into a space- and power-saving 2U chassis.

NextStream features three server blades, each with dual (2) low-wattage Intel Xeon CPUs, capable of running up to six (6) separate vSphere licenses; 96GB DDR3 ECC memory per blade, for a total of 288GB per chassis; embedded management PC server with Intel Core 2 Duo processor and removable solid state disk for running vCenter Server virtualization management console; dual (2) front-access removable 2.5-inch SATA or SAS hard drives, up to 1TB each; and redundant 2+1 1140W power supply.
