Frontline Test Equipment, Inc. (Charlottesville, VA) is a provider of PC-based protocol analyzers for special-purpose data communication networks. Its FTS4BT Bluetooth analysis technology is licensed by the Bluetooth SIG for use within the SIG's product qualification tool. Companies can now release newly Bluetooth-enabled products knowing that the item has been thoroughly tested and will perform to spec in the field.

For 2007, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), Bluetooth's worldwide governing body, reports that 384 companies passed 1,417 products through the SIG's qualification program. Throughout the world, Bluetooth continues to grow in popularity, with an average of 85 percent of consumers aware of the technology, prompting ever more OEMs to take the wireless plunge. More than 40,000 units are in use worldwide, spanning a wide variety of communication technologies.

By using modern protocol analyzers dedicated to testing Bluetooth applications, manufacturers can speed the design, verification, and testing process without fear of jeopardizing quality. Fully functioned protocol analyzers can also extract the audio data transmitted between a Bluetooth headset or a Bluetooth automobile hands-free unit and a cell phone and place the data into a WAV file.
