CD-adapco, a provider of CAE software focused on CFD (computational fluid dynamics), has released STAR-CCM+ v10.04. This version, the company states, represents a major step forward in the company's vision of allowing its customers to utilize Multidiscipline Design eXploration (MDX).

Included in v10.04 is an all-new Finite Element Based Solid Stress Solver, enabling Computational Solid Mechanics within the platform. Technology enhancements offer an Adjoint Solver for Coupled Solid Energy and geometry transfer through STAR-CAD.

For user experience, this release has 22 new color maps for furthering the visualization workflow, improved monitoring and control with the Optimate interface and Custom Summary Reports for object simulation.

Productivity has been increased with the Boundary Data Export for Simulation History feature. It reduces the file size of the simulation history and only delivers the boundary results. Also included is an Equilibrium DFBI Motion Type for sink and trim calculations in the marine industry.

“The introduction of Computational Solid Mechanics in STAR-CCM+ is a very important step in terms of the future direction of engineering simulation,” said Jean-Claude Ercolanelli, senior VP of Product Management, CD-adapco. “Engineers can now easily bridge the gap between the fluid and structure disciplines within one single user interface and environment. Previously, this was only possible using multiple tools and different skill sets across several teams. STAR-CCM+ users are now able to expand their applications scope and be effective immediately. The new Computational Solid Mechanics capability is using the same interface and does not require an additional license.”
