Celeritive Technologies announced the release of VoluMill version 5.6. The latest version, integrated within several CAM systems, or available as the standalone VoluMill NEXION system, contains several new features as well as improvements to existing functionality, the company says.

"We are particularly excited about the new capabilities of VoluMill 5.6," said Joe McChesney, Celeritive's product manager. "Users now can use pre-drilled holes to facilitate entry into material, further reducing cycle time and extending tool life. They can choose to have VoluMill determine optimal locations for drilling, or select the locations themselves. We have also added additional control over feed rates, repositioning, and other tool motion, to help machinists tune VoluMill to their particular hardware."

VoluMill 5.6 also contains several enhancements for individual CAM systems, such as complete support for in-process workpiece machining for Siemens NX, and 5-axis simultaneous rough milling with curved floor support in VoluMill NEXION. The release also includes several improvements in toolpath generation, processing time and robustness.
