CoreTechnologie has enhanced the latest generation of the universal CAD data converter 3D_Evolution 4.9 with a new function for checking semantic PMI (product manufacturing information).
With the new version of the universal CAD data converter 3D_Evolution 4.9, the German-French software pioneer CoreTechnologie has set another milestone in implementation of Model Based Definition (MBD), the company reports. Users can convert and compare PMI from native systems such as CATIA V5, Creo, Solidworks and NX into neutral formats such as STEP AP 242 Edition 3 and JT.
While product manufacturing information is already available graphically in many 3D models, the underlying semantics are often missing. But with 3D_Evolution 4.9, the new function analyzes whether all PMIs created by the designer are semantically defined, i.e. whether they contain evaluable textual information and are not visual annotations. In addition, it checks which surfaces or geometric elements the PMIs refer to, enabling errors, inconsistencies or incomplete definitions to be detected at an early stage.
A highlight of the new software is the direct comparison of PMIs between original CAD data and converted models. This allows verification of whether PMIs have been retained completely, correctly and semantically during data exchange, a key criterion for collaboration in heterogeneous CAD landscapes.
In addition, the 3D_Evolution software offers the option of converting PMI, including the 3D views defined in CAD mode, into a 3D PDF. These documents are used with a freely available PDF viewer and display functional 3D dimensions, tolerances, sections and comments. The saved views replace traditional 2D drawings and enable an intuitive, filterable display of relevant information, made for manufacturing, assembly and quality assurance.
The new functionality of 3D_Evolution addresses challenges in MBD implementation and supports the cultural shift away from 2D drawings, improves data quality and increases interoperability across system boundaries. At the same time, the new semantic PMI verification function creates trust in the digital twin as a single source of truth.
The current software version of 3D_Evolution 4.9 develops the vision of the 3D master model. Verification, comparison and usable transfer of semantic PMI form the basis for a consistent model-based enterprise strategy and for a future in which the fully annotated 3D model is the only valid product definition.
With 42 supported interface formats, 3D_Evolution is a conversion platform for all common CAD, 3D printing and VR formats and forms a hub for the automated exchange of complex 3D data throughout the product development process.
