Dassault Systèmes has launched a Collaborative Multi-Discipline Engineering (CMDE) initiative. Designed to be a tool for manufacturers to implement multi-discipline collaboration and lean product development processes, it delivers functionality from multiple DS brands, is capable of handling large assemblies, and is based upon a single PLM platform, according to the company.

The CDME solution supports product information (from CAD and manufacturing information to mechatronics simulation data) enabling engineers to participate in projects, even if they are not using the system that generated the data.

Dassault Systèmes’ goal was to create a solution that uses 3D to bring together all engineering disciplines that work on complex equipment. According to the company, the Dassault Systèmes V6 collaborative platform enables manufacturers to go beyond the confines of traditional PLM by incorporating 3D technology.

The CMDE solution’s design tools help designers collaborate in real time on large-scale mechanical design, such as tubing, welding, structural, electrical and software components, kinematics and control systems. In addition to supporting the management of functional, logical and physical product information, the resulting 3D designs can be represented as a multifunctional engineering bill of material. The solution has also been developed to meet security requirements of sharing intellectual property (IP) across departments of the extended enterprise, including suppliers and customers, with the granular levels of IP protection. 

“The bottom line is that users can stay on task and do not have to interrupt their normal workflow, drastically improving productivity,” according to PLM analyst firm CIMdata. “V6 PLM is the backbone for all product, process, resource, and simulation data management enabling global multi-disciplines collaboration.”
