In this episode of DE Editors' Chat, Kenneth Wong and Brian Albright reflect on the emergence of cloud platforms at AU 2022, the releases of engineering simulation programs powered by AWS, additive manufacturing news from Formnext, and more.
At AU 2022, Autodesk announced three industry-specific cloud platforms: Autodesk Forma for architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC); Autodesk Flow for media and entertainment (M&E); and Autodesk Fusion for product design and manufacturing. The company's strategy is to attract third-party developers to create apps and programs running on these clouds. DE editors discuss how such apps might look like, and point to existing examples.
As the year comes to a close, both Ansys and Siemens released simulation applications powered by AWS, available directly from AWS Marketplace. DE editors discuss the driving forces behind the shift and explain why this could be the beginning of a wider trend.
As Formnext wraps up, DE editors discuss select news items from the show, ranging from partnerships to AM simulation and QA apps. They are a continuation of the industry transformation seen at IMTS.
In addition to these, editors discuss recession concerns and the effect on tradeshows, along with an upcoming engineering competition featuring Make48 and Kansas State School for the Blind.
