Latest FLOW-3D Offers New Extensions and 64-bit Capability

FLOW-3D version 9.1, the latest computational fluid dynamics solution from Flow Science, Inc.(Santa Fe, NM), offers users an advanced new VOF technique, extensionsto the General Moving Objects model introduced last year, andnumerous other enhancements to user modeling options. In addition,Flow Science says that Version 9.1 will support 64-bit Windows and Linux RedHat Enterprise 3.0for the x86 64-bit processors in AMD Opteron and Intel Xeonworkstations.

Key benefits found in Version 9.1 include a split Lagrangian VOFadvection model, an electric conductivity model, a cavitation potentialmodel, and a two-fluid interface slip model. Improvements to theexisting program include an extension to the model to enable movingcomponents to have the same heat transfer and mass source capabilitiesas non-moving components. Additional extensions allow for movinghistory probes and non-inertial forces on moving components and theability to model particles adhering to moving objects.

Some other improvements include an air entrainment model that has beenmodified to allow for its use without requiring initiating anyturbulence model, a two-fluid phase change to allow condensation inpure gas and evaporation in pure liquid for both sharp and diffuseinterface cases, more accurate free surface curvature evaluations, anda better graphical user interface to allow for more complete setup viathe interface, rather than text input, and to add numerous other userconveniences.

Version 9.1 will support 64-bit Windows and RedHat Enterprise 3.0 forthe x86 64-bit processors in AMD Opteron and Intel Xeon workstations.In addition, Version 9.1 will also support Windows XP Pro IA64 andWindows Server 2003 IA64 for the Intel Itanium 2 workstation. Moreover,for the first time, says the company, FLOW-3D will be able to be run inshared-memory parallel mode on 32-bit Linux and 64-bit processorsrunning both Windows and Linux.
