MathWorks Introduces New Release of MATLAB

By DE Editors

October 15, 2014

MathWorks has released MATLAB 2014b. New features in the software include an updated graphics system, Big Data support and enhanced collaboration and sharing.

MATLAB 2014b has new default colors, fonts and styles in its all new graphics system. Added syntax for changing properties of graphics objects makes it easier to customize visualizations. Other additions include rotatable tick labels, support for multilingual text and symbols, and automatic updating of date and time tick labels.

Also available are Big Data capabilities such as simplified access and analysis of files and databases, support for the MapReduce programming technique and Hadoop.

Users now have access to Git and Subversion source control system integration through the Current Folder Browser. Custom toolboxes can be packaged as single, installable files. This, according to the company, makes distribution, installing and managing shared code easier.

“Release 2014b is a culmination of years of hard work across many teams,” said Kevin Cohan, product marketing manager, MathWorks. “It speaks directly to customer needs while also providing additional capabilities that support key industry needs such as the ability to more easily process and analyze big data.”
