Methods Machine Tools Offers 3D Print Solutions

Methods Machine Tools will offer additive manufacturing solutions through a partnership with 3D Systems.

Methods Machine Tools, a supplier of precision machine tools, has entered the 3D printing business via a partnership with 3D Systems. Methods will offer 3D Systems’ printers and materials to its customers.

The companies officially launched their partnership in November, when Methods Machine Tools hosted an open house/conference called TechFest2015 (“Manufacturing the Future”) at the company’s corporate technology center and showroom in Sudbury, MA.techfest upper left

The conference also included a session called “The Future of Metal Additive Manufacturing: Methods 3D,” that provided an overview of 3D Systems’ technology and how it will complement Methods’ other machining solutions.

“There is a very strong market for 3D printing. We are on the front end of this technology, and we couldn’t be more pleased. Our customers have expressed a huge interest in it and we are poised to help integrate 3D printing into their manufacturing solutions,” said Bryon Deysher, Methods Machine Tools President & CEO.

Methods established a new business unit (Methods 3D) that will be led by former Pratt & Whitney technology manager and engineer Benjamin Fisk. Fisk will serve as Methods’ GM of 3D additive manufacturing, and is currently assembling a 3D printing team so the company can provide sales, installation, service, applications support and spare parts to its customers in that segment.

The company will establish a 3D lab and showroom at each of its seven facilities in the U.S., as well as a 2,000-sq.-ft. additive manufacturing lab at its headquarters in Sudbury.

Methods will focus on the 3D Systems Direct Metal Printers, leveraging the company’s expertise in metal precision machining and applications in the aerospace, medical, automotive and electronics markets.

“We are excited to partner with Methods to bring our full range of 3D printers to their customer base to complement their machining and automation capabilities,” said Mark Wright, Chief Operating Officer, 3D Systems. “Methods brings a deep understanding of metalworking manufacturing applications and a strong commitment to service and support, and will extend our coverage to new customers looking to add digital fabrication solutions to their products.”
